Mac Cosmetics Essential Face Oil First Impression

Hey Beauties!

During the winter period my skin gets very dry and dehydrated so using oils and rich moisturizers is essential. I’ve tried and still use The Body Shop face oil which I use at night mixed with my moisturizer or some evenings I use it solo. The consistency of that oil is a bit heavy, and I would definitely recommend it for very dry to dry/ dehydrated skin. However, this Mac Cosmetics Prep + Prime Essential Oil is a bit different with regards to the formula, usage and performance.

As per the website:

My Experience:

This contains glass packaging with a dropper which is standard for oils to contain. I like that the packaging is clear to see how much product is inside.

The scent is very pleasant. I love oils that contain a mild but “spa like” soothing scent. I do smell the essential oil factor in this as well as chamomile but I can’t establish the grapefruit scent.

I know that only a few drops is required when using this but it only contains 14ml of product which isn’t that much compared to the price. I know Mac is high end but I at least expected this to be a little bit cheaper for the amount of product. Maybe this does last for a while/ a couple of months and the ingredients are good hence the price point.

I used this three ways. The first day I used it alone after cleansing one evening. It deeply nourished my skin and my skin was not dry or dehydrated the next morning. It also did not feel or appear heavy on the skin. A lot of oils I’ve tried I would have to massage into my skin for at least 2 minutes and then massage some more just before I get into bed or touch my pillows. This oil did not stain my pillows, it absorbed into my skin very well and it felt very lightweight and thin yet hydrated and nourished.

The second day I mixed it with a matte foundation (Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation). I usually mix this particular foundation with a satin or dewy foundation especially during winter, but I’ve never tried mixing it with oil.  I used three drops of oil and one full pump of the foundation and this looked beautiful on the skin. It did not break up my foundation halfway through the day; it did not disrupt the formula of the foundation and kept my skin hydrated and radiant all day.

The third night I mixed four drops into my moisturizer and loved it too. My skin felt nourished, hydrated and lightweight.

I love that this oil is so versatile/ multi-functional, easy and quickly to blend into the skin and how thin and lightweight it is. Also the scent is very relaxing and is great to use at night or in the mornings.

I would recommend this oil for any skin type even sensitive or acne, young or old as it’s safe to use for everyone. It won’t clog your pores, break you out or leave your skin dehydrated. It hydrates, the ingredients are safe, and it’s lightweight and nourishes the skin.

Contains 14ml/ 0.47 US Fl. Oz. Retails for R505.
