2018 Beauty Favorites

Hey Beauties!

Happy New Year! So excited to be doing my yearly favorites and may 2019 be YOUR year!

As per category starting from hair, nails, skin and makeup. I will be doing a separate post on fashion and accessories soon.

A lot of these products I’ve done individual posts on therefore I won’t go into too much detail about every product, just pin pointing why I love it.

HAIR

Redken Shampoo and Conditioner

Redken has always worked so well on my hair. The All Soft range is my favorite leaving my hair manageable, soft and smooth. It never weighs my hair down and I’ve noticed my hair does not get tangled when using any of these products.

NAILS:

I started wearing long nails again. I use have long, acrylic nails years back and got them done at the salon consistently. For these past couple of months I’ve gotten back into wearing long nails and having fun with different shapes, glitter and stickers. The only shade I’ve worn and stuck to not only in 2018 but throughout the years is Nude shades. I can wear anything with these types of shades (clothing and shoes) and it is not loud or bold which is what I prefer when it comes to my nails.

SKINCARE

Derca Skincare

I have fallen in love with Derca Skincare this year and it is now my staple brand of skincare. I absolutely love how this range has maintained my skin by keeping it hydrated, youthful, plump and clear. It’s also a proudly South African brand which I will gladly support of course.

MAKEUP

Primer:

The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer

The Ordinary primary was and still is surprisingly good in terms of smoothing my skin, creating a silky soft base for foundation and hydrating my skin too.

Foundation:

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation (Golden)

Dior Forever Foundation

The Too Faced foundation is my favorite foundation of all time. From the coverage to the consistency it’s absolutely outstanding.

I started dabbling with Dior makeup in 2018 and also fell in love with their foundation. This is now second in place and a good alternative personally for special occasions or when I want my skin to appear flawless on certain days/ nights.

Powder:

Yardley Loose Powder Translucent

Chanel Loose Finishing Powder

I’ve used this powder to the bone and this is my second tub. It does last a long time too but I use this to bake, set my entire face, touch up during the day, I can use it with a sponge or brush and it still works great.

I’ve also started playing around with Channel makeup and although the cream bronzer is very popular I decided to purchase this powder first. It’s actually very comparable to my affordable Yardley Powder. I use this to set my foundation and concealer, bake when need be, and it’s a wonderful powder to transform your skin into a flawless canvas without drying out my skin and no ‘cake face.’

Concealer:

Colourpop No Filter Matte Concealer

I absolutely love the consistency and formula of this concealer. It’s been raved about for a reason and this is one of the best concealers I’ve tried to date.

Blush:

BH Cosmetics Nude Blush Palette

I was never really into blush until I purchased this palette. It’s the only palette I use now and I absolutely love all the shades inside this palette. I use it everyday and gave away all my single blushers as I only need this palette.

Highlighters:

Fenty Beauty Mean Money/ Hustla Baby

Anastasia Beverly Hills Sugar Glow Kit

Colourpop X Shayla Boomin’

Mac Cosmetics Whisper of Gilt

Fenty highlighters will always have a special place and this is no exception. I used Hustla Baby more than Mean Money as Hustla Baby is more bright and beaming.

Anastasia highlighters are beaming even though it does contain flecks of shimmer. I always use a light hand and rather build up the intensity but irrespective it’s stunning on the skin. Along with her highlighter brush which is the only brush I now use to apply highlighter with.

I don’t know what magic Shayla and Colourpop did, but this is such a beautiful highlighter. This makes my skin appear smooth, beaming and radiant. It does not emphasize texture at all and I can use this solo or topped off with other highlighters.

Mac whisper of Gilt was and still is such an amazing highlighter. My skin always looks so beautiful whenever I wear this.

Eye Shadow palettes:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette

Urban Decay Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette

I have only 2 favorites although I love so many palettes but if I think about how many looks I’ve created with these 2 palettes the evidence is overwhelming. I’ve created soft, easy looks as well as dramatic, cut crease detailed looks using both these palettes. They both so versatile, highly pigmented and easy to work with therefore I’ve been reaching for it non stop.

Lip Liners:

Mac Cosmetics Lip Pencils

I dug into Mac Prolong Wear lip liners and I can’t get enough. It’s long lasting, pigmented and glides seamlessly and smoothly on the lips.

Liquid Lipsticks:

These formulas, longevity and pigmentation were the best throughout the year. If I could chose only one, Fenty wins by a mile away, it’s the best I’ve tried to date.

Lipsticks:

It seams boujee but I love lipstick and the formula of these are priceless. It’s luxurious and I feel expensive when wearing these.

I do still love Mac lipsticks and it will always be one of my favorite lipsticks ever but trying out other formulas was fun too.

Lip gloss:

All these formulas were incredible but once again Fenty gloss bomb takes the cake.

What were your yearly favorites?

Thanks for stopping by and as always thank you for all your support throughout 2018 😊

  1. Happy new year Reeva!

Your nails looks gorgeous – nudes are so classy.

The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer is on my radar to try. I was concerned it might be drying due to all the silicones but glad to hear that you found it hydrating. It’s so affordable too.

The Chanel Loose Finishing Powder is on my list to try as well. I bought a couple of pricey loose powders last year (Givenchy and ByTerry) and I was so disappointed by both of them! But I’m willing to try the Chanel based on good reviews.

I got the chance to try the MAC Whisper of Gilt highlighter just before Christmas and it looked so gorgeous on my skin! I didn’t buy it (yet) but I am tempted.

Fenty Gloss Bomb is soooo good! I want to get the new pink shade in Fussy. 🙂

  2. Happy New Year!
You have such great picks for favorites!
I love the Urban Decay Born to Run palette too!
This year I really want to try that Dior Foundation and the Fenty liquid lipstick – I’ve heard such great things about these two. Although I’m not the biggest fan of the first peachy Fenty gloss bomb, but I LOVE the pink one that came out!
